Mentors

What do mentors do?

Mentors meet weekly with a student to build a one-on-one relationship. Mentors provide stable, consistent, and positive interactions to encourage students to overcome challenges and achieve social, intellectual, and personal goals.

How are students selected to participate?

Students in grades K - 12 are referred by school personnel who believe that positive adult support would help bridge opportunity gaps or overcome adversity in the student's life. Students will be matched with a mentor when one becomes available.

How do I become a mentor?

Mentors must complete an application, background check, and training prior to meeting with a child. School location, student age preferences, interests, and personalities are considered prior to matching students.

What kinds of activities do mentors and students do together?

Mentors and students decide their own schedule and activities together. Kids On The Rise provides some activities and field trips in which they may participate that help build relationships and expand students' worldviews.
